Hello world!

In today’s world, every young adult is supposed to know how to use social media. I, however, am not one of those young adults. To help me I am taking a social media class at Edgewood College. My hope is that at the end of my time in the class I will be a social media guru and maintain many forms of social media. I hope to be able to maintain Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and this blog. Like most people starting to explore the social media world I some fears about it.

One fear is about having Foursquare. All I know about it so far is that you can say where you are and check into different locations. I fear that this is an unsafe way for people to track you down and find you. This might be me being pessimistic but if someone saw that you were in a location that they could come and hurt you then that would be abusing the program. Another fear I have is being able to maintain all of these new social media without a smart phone. It may take me a few hours to retweet to someone or not be able to tell a stalker where I am. Eventually I will upgrade to a smart phone but my 2 year lease does not end for another year. It sounds silly to me now to spend money on a smart phone but for my profession I will need to be connected to the universe. I also know that this is the 21st century and need to be open-minded. So my hope for my last semester in college is to gain knowledge about social media world. I hope this opens up doors for me to get out there and network with potential employers.

I know this might sound negative at first but I hope using this blog will help me find ways to become more proficient at social media.  This is to help others with the same fears that they may have with trying out social media. For those of us who have little experience with it this might be a scary world to go into. By the end of this blog I will have a positive outlook for the online world around me.

  1. Hi Elly. Those of us who are more familiar with ‘the social media’ world welcome you with open arms. I hope that you are able to find yourself among us and wish you the best of luck.
